Monte-Carlo Rally: Duel at the top between Ogier and Neuville!

26 January 2019 - 16h13

After 12 special stages, Sébastien Ogier continues to resist Thierry Neuville on the Monte-Carlo Rally. Ogier, who is from Gap in the Haute-Alpes will start the last day in the leader’s chair. Sébastien Loeb (Hyundai) is third.

Two giants side by side, neck and neck, with a four seconds difference at the end of the third day of the race. Yesterday, they were only two seconds apart. Tonight, after 12 SS through ice, snow, mud and dry sections, Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) and Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) are still competing for the lead in the overall classification. Stage after stage, the man from Gap and the Belgian continue to engage in a duel at the top, while Sébastien Loeb (Hyundai), third, is at 1mn54. The first of the two to break will see their chances of a final victory vanish.

Struggle from a distance

Throughout the day, in this struggle from a distance, Sébastien Ogier, only threatened by the Hyundai driver in the overall classification, held on to his position. In the first stage, the longest in this Monte-Carlo Rally, the six-time world champion even increased his lead by 3.6 seconds. But as the stages progressed, the gaps evolved. Sébastien Ogier concedes three tenths to Thierry Neuville at SS 10, before giving him more than a second at the end of the 11th special stage. At the same time, Sébastien Loeb clung on and took his place on the podium. Ott Tänak (Toyota) won the stage victories. The Estonian won all four stages of the day.

Sébastien Ogier under pressure

The ultimate SS between St Léger les Melezes and La Batie Neuve, allowed Thierry Neuville to continue to gain a few seconds. Tonight, on the eve of the final finish, the gap between the two drivers is only 4.3 seconds. The last four stages, which will be held tomorrow, will inevitably feature a magnificent champion.
