Yesterday, Pierre-André Chiappori, who was elected member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences on June 26th, 2017, pronounced the eulogy of Pierre Bauchet under the Coupole of the Institute, as tradition requires.
He entered under the Coupole two centuries after another Monegasque, the sculptor François-Joseph Bosio born in Monaco on March 19th, 1768 who was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts. Pierre-André Chiappori, was born in Monaco in 1955. Admitted to the Ecole polytechnique and to Normal Sup in 1974, he chose the latter and is then received at the mathematics aggregation in 1977. In 1981, he defends his doctoral thesis in Economics at Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne University. His academic activities began in France, he was director of research at the CNRS and at the same time taught at the X and ENSAE. It was in 1997 that the University of Chicago offered him a professorship. He thought he will be leaving for three years with his wife… In 2004, both accepted two offers from Columbia University. Pierre-André Chiappori’s work focuses on the micro-economy, and specializes in contract theory, risk and insurance issues, and the economic analysis of the family. He is the author of numerous publications and articles and a member of the scientific council of many institutions. He is, in particular, president of the scientific council of IMSEE, the Monegasque Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies. His relations with the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences have been longstanding established. In 2010, he was awarded the Zerilli-Marimo Prize by the Political Economy, Statistics and Finance section and was elected a corresponding member of this section in 2010 whom he is a member from June 2017.
