The Cercle d’Echecs de Monte-Carlo won, for the first time, the title of Feminine French Clubs Champions, against Bischwiller.
After their victory in semi-finals against the titleholder, Clichy, on a score of 2 to 1, pitting Monegasque chess player Pia Cramling against ex-world champion Alexandra Kostiniuk, the Monegasque won out 1 to 0 at Bischwiller in the final, thus winning the championship for the first time.
During the group stage, the club earned their group’s first place by winning all five games. It later prevailed during the final stage of the Coupe de la Parité, in which teams are composed of two women and two men, the latter of which the total point count cannot exceed 8 000. All in all, sixteen teams faced each other over five laps, the Monegasques winning out with three games won and two ties. For Jean-Michel Rapaire, the club’s president, these victories are “an immense joy for the two Monegasque teams and two more gold cups for the Cercle d’Echecs de Monte Carlo’s track record.”
