The Montpellier team wins the Rugby Sainte Devote Tournament 2019

12 May 2019 - 11h35

17 U12 teams from 14 nations, including 6 mixed boys and girls, met yesterday at the Stade Louis II in front of a cheering crowd. Montpellier played in the final against Provence Rugby and won the tournament!

Organized by Monegasque Rugby Federation with the support of the Princess Charlene Foundation of Monaco, this tournament is gaining more and more importance. For the first time since its creation in 2009, the event welcomed 17 teams from 14 nations, including the United States of America. A pride for the Princess, who spoke through the social networks of her foundation: ” I have always seen sport as a wonderful link between people, prompting each of us to develop greater open-mindedness and better acceptance of others. This edition will feature several mixed teams which I am delighted about. Enabling each child, boy or girl, to have the opportunity of embracing the values of sport in order to shape his/her personality is an exciting and wonderful challenge.”

At the end of the day, Montpellier finished victorious against Provence Rugby. The Monegasque team, meanwhile, was awarded the Sainte Devote trophy. Other highlights marked the event, such as the presentation of the Rugby Safety Network Foundation of the 2010 French Champion Jamie Cudmore, sponsor of this 9th edition, the meetings with renowned sportsmen like Dara Torres, former Olympic swimming champion or Marcel van der Merwe, former rugby player or educational workshops adapted to children with disabilities by Tots Rugby
