Olga Tarasenko’s players won their ninth consecutive game against ASVEL (78-63) on Saturday evening at the Annonciade. Noémie Lemaire scored 24 points in this game where the MBA was never threatened. Here we look back at the game with President Eric Elena.
What do you take away from this ninth consecutive success?
The girls managed against a great team. They did the minimum necessary, controlling the game well, but the intensity was not the same as usual. Defensively, we held up well, we always managed to keep the ASVEL 10-12 points behind. Our team has never shaken, which shows our maturity. Above all, we continue our exceptional run. If I had been told, when we were in last place after the first three rounds of the championship that we would be tied for second place three months later, I would have laughed. In fact, yesterday, during the debriefing, Olga put it well: “We have become a steamroller again. Let everyone take notice!”
Noémie Lemaire distinguished herself by scoring 24 points
She put in an exceptional performance despite having some hand problems, we are protecting her. She had an absolutely outstanding first half, she was doing everything she was trying to do. The girls knew this, they were passing to Noémie who was shooting. I’m not surprised by her performance and I know she has the potential to replicate it. It is deserved.
Four major matches will follow one another for the MBA, with away games at Roanne (4th) and Voiron (1st), the home game against La Tronche Meylan (2nd) and the last-16 round of the Trophée Coupe de France. How do you approach this period?
Roanne’s going to be very hard to beat. I am also looking forward to the duel against La Tronche on February 23rd, including a reaction by our players to the first match (Editor’s note, the MBA collapsed 89-51). I call on everyone to come and see this game, which will also be an indicator for the rest of the season. If we manage to negotiate this period well, it will be very serious. Concerning the Trophée Coupe de France, I would like to thank Roquebrune-Cap-Martin for requesting to host the competition, which makes one less trip for us and allows our fans to come and support us.
