Halfway through the season, the Monegasque shooting guard shares his feelings and tackles the difficulties of the club within the French basketball championship.
An adjusting period, a change of coach, new recruits… A busy start to the season awaited the Roca Team after their successive failures in the Champions League and Jeep Elite finals. The arrival of the new coach Sasa Filipovski was not easy. If former coach Zvezdan Mitrović preached the freshness of the players on the field, for Sasa Filipovski, training comes first and foremost. And even though the ASM Basket has prevailed in the derby this weekend against Antibes (103-89), the princely club does not take off the middle of the ranking (12th).
“There is not enough respect for the championship, because it is very atypical and new for everyone,” explains Paul Lacombe. According to him, the group lacks experience. Maybe unconsciously, the team “gives more in Eurocup”
Fans support, a sizeable advantage
“We are not strong enough and serious enough to afford to play like last year, where we went easy on some matches and we still managed to win them. This season, that’s not the case and it played tricks on us so far”, said Paul Lacombe, interviewed shortly before the match against Antibes.
Despite the situation, the Monegasque shooting guard expresses his will to fight and win this season, not only for him or the team, but also for the fans: “Thank you for the excitement around me. As I said before, I’m just trying to be myself when I’m on the field, and having that feeding back is something that helps a lot… It’s very important for a player to feel loved, it makes things easier and makes you want to go fight.”
