With more than 7,200 spectators for IN as well as more than 5,000 spectators for the OFF and an average attendance increase of 7% compared to 2018, this 70th edition was a great success for the organizers.
For 21 days the city of Menton vibrated to the sound of many concerts, a piano night in the IN Festival, against three musical meetings on the Esplanade des Sablettes for the OFF Festival. Without forgetting the conferences, the guided tours, the exhibitions, a projection of film and the mass! This year, more than 125 artists performed on the Menton scene and 40 events were featured in the programme. The average attendance was 92% on the parvis, an increase of 7% compared to 2018, which demonstrates the enthusiasm of locals for this traditional meeting. In addition, Jean-Claude Guibal, Mayor of Menton, received Prince Albert II at St. Michael Archangel Basilica on August 6, for Boris Berezosky’s concert.
One of the oldest and most prestigious festivals in Europe
It is through the narrow streets of the old town in 1949 that André Böröcz discovers the Saint-Michel desert parvis. When suddenly a radio on a windowsill escapes the sound of a violin. Absorbed by the sight of the sea, the setting sun and the music, he created the festival in 1950. And since then, this event has become a tradition.
This year “the magic of the Menton Festival has operated“, again according to Paul-Emmanuel Thomas, its artistic director, who did not fail to highlight the success of the event: “a fortississimo edition! a big party, a growing family of artists and a firework of emotions. This 70th edition will long be engraved in our memories as one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives, humanly, emotionally and musically. ”
