With two teams so far (the third one is waiting for a possible withdrawal) qualified for the French championship, AS Monaco should feel very pleased with the performance.
Many Monegasque athletes were present on February 2nd in Rians to participate in the selections for the athletic strength ‘Villenave’ French championship, as the AS Monaco section had decided to enter three teams. A great success since two teams have already qualified for the French championship in Cesson-Sévigné (Ille-et-Vilaine) on June 22nd and 23rd where they will be facing the country’s best in the sporting discipline. Emma Carvalho, Julie Franch Guerra and Laure Planes of the women’s Open team, also made a strong impact by finishing 9th (out of 17), thus qualifying for the French championship. Also qualified are Loris Menoni, Gérard Oumailia and Lawdim Lekaj.
A high-performance section
Namely thanks to Lawdim Lekaj who lifted 250 kg in the deadlift, the three men took 11th place in the Master ranking, which included 19 teams. As for the second men’s team (14th place), all is not lost. Jean Canestrier, Olivier Oumailia and Didier Lapernat (the latter having distinguishing himself for his first competition with 180 kg in the deadlift) are waiting for a “possible withdrawal”. These good results are a continuation of the previous performances of AS Monaco Athletic Force athletes who won interregional titles and qualified for the French Elite Championships in Nantes in March, the European Championships in Hungary also in March and the World Bench Press Championships in Tokyo in May.
