13 February 2019 - 17h00

On the occasion of the 5km Herculis organized as part of the Monaco Run – Laureus Sport for Good, a running session to discover the circuit was organized today at 12:30pm on la route de la piscine. Paula Radcliffe, holder of the marathon world record and course guide, speaks about the morning session and the trials that will take place on February 16th and 17th.

For its 2019 edition, the Monaco Run has changed format and offers an outstanding sports weekend on February 16th and 17th. On the menu, a 10km city trail, 1000m free sessions open to everyone from the age of eight and a new race scheduled for Sunday 17th with a 5km Herculis. For this occasion, the fédération monégasque d’athlétisme organized this morning a free jogging session with Paula Radcliffe collaboration.

Today is a discovery session of the 5km Herculis course. The start is given here (route de la piscine N.D.L.R.), we will take the uphill of the Yacht Club until Sporting where we will turn around. The return is much faster than the first way, because there is no more climb“, says the runner. Before adding, smiling: “There are different types of runners, I will adapt to the pace of the group. It’s a great opportunity to run a new course in the heart of Monaco”.

There will be attempts to achieve the Elites world record! ” says the athlete. As a reminder, one of the peculiarities of this event is the departure lock, based on the performance of runners over 10km. Regarding professional athletes or Elites man the start is announced at 10:30am and at 10:35am for women. And it is only from 10:36am that the rest of the runners will be able to start the race.

Many famous athletes will be present during this race, such as Sifan Hassan, holder of the European record of 5000m on the track, Julien Wanders, holder of the European records of the 10km and the half-marathon or Laura Weightman double bronze medal on 1500m during the 2014 European Championships. “Today I am retired, I run for pleasure. My personal road record dates from 2003 (14’51 min N.D.L.R). I think that I will participate in one of the two races, the 5km or the city trail, this time my goal is not to win, but to share this experience with other runners” said Paula Radcliffe with a smile.
