Discovering the Monegasque history

22 June 2019 - 10h47

Today and tomorrow, the second Rencontre des Sites historiques Grimaldi de Monaco will unite, on the Principality’s territory, several territories historically linked with the Grimaldi family: the pays de Matignon in Brittany, the Valentinois in the Alps, Dolceacqua in Italy and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.

All through the two days, guests will be able to discover cultural spectacles and folkloric dances originating in these territories. The invited “fiefs” will also present the links which, over the course of history, brought them together with Monaco and the Grimaldi. Several activities from these territories will be offered to guests of all ages. In particular, several displays of Gouren Breizh, namely Breton wrestling, will take place on the Place du Palais, as well as an art exhibition for the invited regions. Ancient games will also be organized for the younger participants. Finally, the Saturday will be concluded by a sound-and-light show at 10pm. The programme for both days is available on the association’s website.

Ties with Monaco

The Association des Sites historiques Grimaldi de Monaco was founded in 2015, on Jean-Claude Guibal mayor of Menton’s initiative, on the occasion of the tricentenary of Jacques Goÿon de Matignon – the future Prince Jacques I – and Princess Louise Hippolyte of Monaco’s union. Its goal is to allow people to discover sites which, all over France and Italy, were linked with the Grimaldi dynasty.
